Well, if you've read anything else on my site, you've probably seen that I talk a lot about my style. In this post I'm going to go more in depth with that, and explain and show ya'll just exactly what type of clothing I like!
On my about page, I talked a bit about the four C's I came up with. I'll talk more about that first.
#1. Cute. I feel like this one is kind of self explanatory! When we go into our closets to figure out what to wear for the day, do we go in with the goal saying, "oh hey, I think today I want to homeless." No! Even if we don't always dress it, I think we definitely can agree that we do want to look and feel pretty in what we wear. So what exactly is cute? I think each person has different looks or items of clothing that make them feel cute and pretty, so really, you get to decide! For some people, it might be wearing dresses and skirts, and for others, it might just be an outfit you put together that you just love how it looks! You get to play around with it!
#2. Comfortable. Ahhh, my favorite C! Even though cute things are pretty important to my style, I will say that some of the time (okay, like every weekday...) I just want to feel COMFORTABLE!! Most days during these winter months, I just wear sweatpants and a t-shirt. Now that definitely is nice and comfy, but my mom tells me I need to work on making it also look cute and colorful!
But anyways, I think two of the top things that make a piece of clothing comfortable are, soft, stretchy, jersey knit-ish fabrics (you know, basically what your favorite tee is made of) and seams that are in comfortable places (am I the only one who had a problem with those puffy, fancy, super itchy, church dresses going up?!). Overall, we want something we feel good and warm and cozy in!
#3. Colorful. When I first started to sew, my number one goal was literally to just remake the same shirt, dress, skirt, etc. in every single color I could! I figured, I like the piece of clothing, why not have it in all the colors of the rainbow?! Now I've realized that I would like to have more than just ONE shirt style, but I still love when I find a piece that comes in more than one color or pattern!
With that said, color is so important to how an outfit looks. Color has the ability to make whatever you're wearing pop and make you look fantastic! But if it's not a very good color on you, it can make you just look kind of "eehh...". If any of you are interested, maybe I'll do a post sometime on what colors you should wear based on your skintone/eyecolor/haircolor. We have a book somewhere in our house that my mom refers to that talks about that. :)
Basically, we don't want to just wear only black and grey and brown all the time. Let's be bright, bold, and beautiful!
#4. Carefree. The kind of clothes where you don't have to worry if the dress is too short, if a neckline is too low, if your stomach is going to show, or if the shorts end up too short. I think this is one of the biggest issues with the clothes currently out there being sold by retailers. There are so many super cute dresses that I can't wear because they're 5 inches too short! This is one of the main reasons why I want to be a fashion designer---because sure, it's not too hard to find clothing already out there that is cute, colorful, and comfy, but clothes that are actually modest and not super expensive can be tricky to find! We need more clothes that fit in all the right ways, so we can feel free to go on an adventure or just do our normal everyday stuff while loving what we're wearing and feeling confident in it! (Hmm...maybe I need to add a fifth C for Confidence...😂)
Next up, I'm going to show you just a bit of inspiration, and what kinds of clothes I like. A picture is worth a thousand words, right?!
So my favorite type of jeans are kind of the boyfriend jeans style---they tend to be pretty relaxed and comfortable, while also being cute and not too tight! Whenever I wear jeans, I generally roll up the hems on the bottom a tiny bit. It gives them a boho-ish, casual, chill look.
I also like t-shirts similar to the ones shown here. These definitely fall under the category of comfortable!
So I don't have any in my closet yet, but I think overall dresses are like one of the CUTEST things ever!! They look so sweet and farm-girlish! One of my friends found a pair of light pink overalls at a thriftstore, and transformed them into a dress. PINK overall dress? Even better!
I also think that normal overalls---either pants or shorts---are super adorable. They make your normal shirt and shorts outfit go from average to stand-out!
Get yourself one of those classy, slim dresses, add a cute long cardigan, and you are good to GO! Need I say more? You can wear these kinds of dresses anywhere and look fab!
Denim skirts. I'm pretty sure you can wear them with anything! Going to church, or somewhere dressy? Wear a nice top. Wanna look casual? Throw on a t-shirt. They're a staple item that can be worn when you just need to hurry up and decide what to wear!
And last but certainly not least...sweatpants!! Gonna just admit now that I wear these comfy things pretty much all the time. Now, I'm still looking for a way to wear sweatpants and look cute (I'll let y'all know when I figure it out), but you can bet I'm still going to wear them anyway!
Well, now you know a bit more about my style! Which outfits do you guys find yourself wearing the most? Out of the four C's, which one is most important to you in what you wear? I want to hear about YOUR style! Tell me in the comments!
