We're all taking pictures nowdays. Selfies, photos with friends, in front of a colorful wall; photos of puppies, flowers, hydro flasks, VW vans. Basically anything we can think of! And after we've taken like 50 photos, we find that about TWO that are actually good enough to post. And that's after filters.
But anyway, I'm sure we all wish that every time we snap a photo it would turn out exactly how we imagine in our heads or see onPinterest! Cute pose, good lighting, and aesthetic filters. So this post is the first in a series of three where I gather a whole bunch of tips on all that, as a little guide to taking and posting the perfect pics! All these tips are actually meant for me to have it all in one place LOL (I'm still learning how to take good pics myself!) but I thought I'd share it with you too. 😘
So lets begin. Posing is up first! I always feel so awkward, espcially doing it in public (I promise it's for a good cause, @ the people staring at me like I'm weird!!), and I can never think of what to with head, body, arms, legs, hands, etc. So here are some tips I've gathered from all over to improve that!
1. Stand on your tip toes--it will make your legs appear longer, toned, and feminine.
2. Dance and twirl! It helps loosen your pose, and will probably make you smile because you feel so silly. It's also a must if you're showing off a flowy dress or skirt!
3. Put one foot in front of the other. It makes your legs look good, and it makes the shot look candid like you're walking. You can also try slowing (but naturally) walking while shots are being snapped.
4. Different face expressions! Make sure you have plenty of options, so do some smiling, serious, looking off into the distance, laughing, being funny, dramatic, etc.
5. Put your hands in your hair. Act like you're in a hair commercial, but make it look natural. Basically just doing different things with your hands to give some diversity and different options to choose from!
6. Play with your pieces of clothing. If you're trying to highlight a flow dress or skirt, you could lift it up or to the side a little to show the movement of the fabric. If you're wearing super cute jeans, you can put your hands in the pockets. If you're showcasing some glam sunglasses, try taking them on and off to catch the shots in between. Small, natural movements like these add more dimension and playfulness to your pics.
7. Props! Whatever you choose, it gives the ability to add a pop of color, an interesting dynamic, or a creative element to give a certain feel to your picture. Plus, if you're holding a prop, that gives you something to do with your hands :)
(creds to this blogger for a lot of those tips)
And then a whole list of little tips/pose ideas to keep in mind:
- Lightly clasp your hands in front of your body
- Stretch like you do when you wake up in the morning
- Be playful stick out your tongue, blow a kiss, laugh
- Peer over your sunglasses
- Find a prop in nature
- Let your hair get in the way, then brush it back while the pics are being snapped
- Walk forward, but then look back at the camera
- Lounge like you would at home on the couch
- Sit on a curb
- Sit on some stairs
- Walk towards the camera like you gonna run it over
- Make sure your body is relaxed and not all tensed up
- Be confident
- Think outside of the box
- Be you!
And now, some actual photo inspiration, because a picture is worth a thousand words, and we are talking about photography after all! :)
